Dear Parents
Term is getting underway, despite the bouts of flu, so I thought I'd write with some more items of news.
Musical Instrument Tuition: Over 30 forms have been returned indicating interest in musical instrument tuition. I'm pleased to be able to invite all parents and children to a meeting this Thursday - 21st January, from 5 until 6pm, when several members of the Cumbria Music School will be available with an array of instruments for the children to 'try out'. Because so much interest was shown, we're hoping to have the string (violin, viola, cello and guitar - classical and folk), the wind (flute, clarinet, possibly sax) and the brass (trumpet, cornet, tenor horn, trombone) families represented as well as keyboard. It will be also be an opportunity for parents and children to talk to the instrumental teachers on an informal basis, and to learn about obtaining a suitable instrument and getting going with lessons.
For those who didn't return the form, please do come along if you would like your child to learn an instrument. If however you are unable come along but are still interested, would you let me know.
All children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
School Council: We are now ready to further develop our idea of starting a School Council - please read the handout which explains how it will be organised and operate. If any parent is interested in joining the School Council as an observer, please complete the form below. In the event that we receive more than two nominations, an election will be held and the two parents chosen by ballot: this will help the children to realise the importance we are attaching to the School Council! Parents would need to be available during the school day for the meetings.
Walkers Crisp Packets and Pringles Foil Tops are being collected by the school - the former for books, the latter for sports equipment. If you buy crisps / pringles, would you mind sending us your packets/tops and telling your friends/relatives that we're collecting them. Many thanks for your help.
School Closure and Bad Weather: In the event of inclement weather: the snow we had last week for example, a reminder that unless there is a message on local radio or you hear directly from the school itself, we remain open for business.
Immediate Events (more to follow in due course!):
More events are to be organised by the PSA at their meeting.
The project then gets underway with Years 5 and 6 undertaking a River Study to Troutbeck.
Finally 'well done' to our children who took part in Jack and the Beanstalk at the Lakes School. They were brilliant!
Yours sincerely,
David Raven-Hill
