Dear Parents,

A very Happy New Year and welcome back! I wanted to write to let you know of a couple of important items of news before communicating more fully as the term progresses.

Building Development: We are delighted to inform you that we have just secured a fairly major bid from the Department for Education and Employment for the improvement of our school buildings. Although we know few details as yet, work will include the removal of the old temporary buildings (at last!); the redevelopment of much of the infant accommodation, including the creation of an Early Years Unit and the extension of the Year 1 classroom; the re-siting of dining facilities, including the building of a kitchen in the main part of school; re-siting the main entrance hall and changing the infant play area to the back of the school.

All exciting: designed to make school a more pleasant and a safer place. When I have more details, I will of course inform you - the work has yet to be planned. So, watch this space!

BBC TV Smart Art Programme: Originally scheduled for January, the Ambleside playground 'project' is to be broadcast at 3.50pm on Friday 12th March. Would anyone offer to video / copy the programme?

PSA Annual General Meeting: This is to be held next Monday - 11th January at 7.30pm in school. It won't just be any old AGM - we'd like ideas from as many parents as possible about future social / fundraising events and I shall also be explaining about our new (and long anticipated) School Council…

School Council: This is soon to be set up, and will involve representatives from each class in school meeting on a regular basis to discuss matters of interest to their class. The staff have agreed how we are to organise the Council, including the fact that we should like a couple of parents and a governor on it as observers. To find out more, come along to the meeting on Monday.

School Internet Web Site: Our web site is developing a-pace. All classes now have their work represented on 'the net' and we're proposing to expand further. A 'Cyberkids' club is soon to be started for the older children so that they can help to manage the site; school newsletters, the latest projects and numerous matters of interest will be featured.

I shall write again in the near future with the term's dates.

Yours sincerely,

 David Raven-Hill
