Roman Soldier back from the dead! On the 1st December a Roman soldier visited Year 4 and recalled his life leading the army. He expressed all the facts in a very exciting and interesting way and made it very funny. He told us the proper way to kill a Celt and how the Celts made their houses windproof. He also told us about his life as a Roman soldier and what happened if you fell asleep when you were supposed to be looking after the fort! Altogether it was a very enjoyable morning. Jenny |
Villa Property Are you really sure you want to live in one of those smelly old Celtic roundhouses? Certainly not me when you can live in a fabulous Roman villa. It's got about ten rooms, an animal area, stables, pathways and stone walls. Slated roofs, doors, two entrances, fencing and trees. It also has very good views and quite a bit of grass. Michaelivs |
Claudius's speech to the Romans:
Senators, we all know how powerful you are, but if we conquer the Britons we shall have everything we need. They have gold, silver, tin and iron. They are the weakest people we know. It shall also help us against the Gauls. Their land is flat so soldiers can march easily, and as they fight in small tribes, they are weak." Chris Blue People reported by Russell |

Good news, readers, only yesterday we invaded a peculiar land where the only human inhabitants are blue with spiked hair. It was nearly a sad end to Caesar and his army. Today we will start shipping more people over to Britain. When our army set foot in the high country they were confronted by..by..well, beasts. They were blue with spiked hair and their hair was bright purple. Now we have an interview with Julius Caesar: 'We came, we saw, we conquered.' In the first place, we weren't going ashore but when the standard bearer went, the army followed. It was a hard battle but we came out on top once again.
Roman Dress
Roman women wore sleeveless tunics made from linen or cotton, or if, they were not very rich, silk. The women wore coloured shawls and they wore jewellery. Their hairstyles were quite elaborate. Female slaves wore simple tunics. Men wore togas - loose robes made from the best wool if they were rich, or, if they were poor, from coarse cloth. Togas could be any colour but officials usually wore white togas with a stripe to show that they were important. Charlotte An interview with Julius Caesar: We came and we conquered, in a very bloody battle. But now I shall go to the baths in Rome and get cleaned up. Martha
