School
Building & Grounds
The
school is a two- storey building completed in 1984 on the
site of the original primary school and was awarded a commendation
for its design.
It
is built of stone with a slate roof to blend with the local
surroundings and is centrally in Hebden Bridge at the confluence
of Hebden Water and the River Calder, close to Riverside Junior
School with which it has strong links. There are two playgrounds,
one is to the side of the building and the other, at the rear,
is surrounded by landscaped gardens.
The
nursery class has its own garden with grassed area and a hard
play area, which enable our youngest children to experience
a high quality outdoor curriculum. There is a separate entrance
for the nursery, which has its own cloakroom, bathroom area
and access to the garden.
The
two large reception classrooms, also on the ground floor,
have communicating doors, a shared cloakroom with toilet facilities
and direct access to the playground.
On
the ground floor there is also a large hall for assemblies
and PE: kitchen facilities and office accommodation.
In
addition to 2 staircases, one at each end of the building,
the school has a lift which means that the whole school is
fully accessible to disabled children and adults.
On
the first floor there are 4 classrooms for Year I and Year
2 pupils, the school library, toilet facilities and a staffroom.
