Primary Admissions Policy
For
a County or Controlled School the order of priority
for admission is:-
|
| 1st
Priority Category: |
(a) |
Pupils
who are in receipt of a statement (in accordance with
the 1981 or 1993 Education Acts) where the Authority
has named a particular school as necessary to meet the
pupils needs.
|
| |
(b) |
Consideration
will also be given to children recommended for admission
on medical grounds, or by the Director of Education
or by the Director of Social Services.
|
| 2nd
Priority Category: |
Pupils
who have a brother or sister attending the school, or
its associated junior school, at the time of admission.
Parents should be aware that a sibling link cannot be
claimed where a sibling in receipt of a Statement of
Special Educational Needs is attending in a resourced
unit within a mainstream primary school.
|
| 3rd
Priority Category: |
Pupils
living within a defined area for the school at the time
of admission for whom there is no alternative school
with available places within walking distance of the
pupil's home.
|
|
Parents
should note that under The 1993 Education Act "walking
distance" is defined as being 2 miles (3.218685 km)
for children under the age of eight years and 3 miles
(4.828032 km) for children over eight years as measured
by the "nearest available route".
Where
any of the above categories is oversubscribed places
will be allocated on the basis of nearness to school
and ease of access to other schools. Nearness will be
determined by safe walking route.
